ABB Force Control Torque Converter Assembly Case Study

This document describes how ABB and Ford developed a Force Control robotic solution to automate the assembly of torque converters for automatic transmissions, replacing the need for human "feeling for force." The solution reduced reject rates from 3 percent to zero, lowered unit costs, and eliminated worker injuries from repetitive heavy lifting.
