SRP Centralized Protection and Control Pilot White Paper

This white paper details Salt River Project’s (SRP) pilot implementation of a Centralized Protection and Control (CPC) system at a 69/12.47 kV substation, moving from a distributed PAC approach to a centralized one using merging units and a CPC device. It covers the design, engineering, installation, testing, and commissioning process, including lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, to demonstrate how IEC 61850 and modern computing enable more adaptable and reliable substation protection.
